UCSF Opens $1.5 Billion Mission Bay Hospital

UCSF has completed construction of a monumental $1.5 Billion “Next Generation” hospital at the Mission Bay Campus.  The hospital complex opened February 1, 2015 after planning for 10 years and started construction in December 2010.  The UCSF Mission Bay Campus is comprised of  three hospitals for women, children and cancer patients to expand the services in an optimal healing environment.

UCSF Mission Bay 1UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay also will feature the only operating hospital helipad in San Francisco to transport critically ill babies, children and pregnant women to the medical center from outlying hospitals.

The hospitals feature state-of-the art technology, including the world’s largest hospital fleet of autonomous robotic couriers which will deliver linens, meals and medications. Interactive media walls in each private room will enable patients to communicate with their families and clinicians.

UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco

This 183 bed facility is one of the nation’s leading children’s hospitals, provides treatment for virtually all pediatric conditions, as well as for critically ill newborns. The Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco was one of the first of its kind in the world.

UCSF Bakar Cancer Hospital

UCSF Mission Bay 4UCSF ranks consistently among the top cancer care centers in the nation, according to the “America’s Best Hospitals” survey from U.S. News & World Report. UCSF Bakar Cancer Hospital  houses 250 bed and sets the standard in personalized care, delivering advanced cancer therapies tailored to individual patient needs. The hospital increases UCSF’s inpatient and outpatient capacity to meet growing demand, in a state-of-the-art facility.

UCSF Betty Irene Moore Women’s Hospital

As the region’s first dedicated women’s hospital, UCSF Betty Irene Moore Women’s Hospital will embody the philosophy of the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health. The new hospital will deliver care that addresses health needs across a woman’s lifetime, including cancer treatment, specialty surgery, a 36-bed birth center, nine deluxe labor and delivery rooms, and select outpatient services.

UCSF Ron Conway Family Gateway Medical Building

Positioned as the anchor for the hospital complex, UCSF Ron Conway Family Gateway Medical Building will serve 1,500 outpatient visitors daily. The 207,500-square-foot UCSF Mission Bay 3facility will offer patients a personalized approach to health care, while embracing innovation, collaboration and cutting-edge technologies.

The location will provide clinics for women, cancer and pediatric patients. It will house 180 exam rooms and include procedure and specialty rooms, such as audiology booths, dialysis and chemotherapy infusion bays. Some outpatient clinics will begin opening Jan. 26.

Additionally, UCSF Ron Conway Family Gateway Medical Building will serve as a training facility for the next generation of medical leaders.

Patients Move into UCSF Mission Bay Facility

UCSF MB Move 5This week was very busy as “all hands on deck” including 40 ambulances, doctors, nurses, and 300 staff moved 131 patients to the new facility.  This was a significant undertaking and went smoothly.  Patients noted being pleased with the new beautiful facilities and the personalized care.
